UNBELIEVABLE GRAPHICS
Incredible particle effects and super detailed landscapes and vehicles ensure that this is one of the most impressive looking games in the App Store. Sky Combat has water effects that have never been seen in a 2D shooter before and explosions that will blow you away! You will need to steer your craft over deep gorges and tall mountains, over rough battle scarred terrain and down meandering canals destroying everything in your path.
STRAFE AND SHOOT
Use the intuitive and innovative control scheme to dodge incoming fire and lay some ordinance down on your enemies. Use Touch, Relative Touch, Tilt, and Virtual joystick to maneuver around the screen, dodging incoming fire, in the vehicle of your choice. Whatever your control preference, there is a control scheme to suit. It’s not all about evasion though; fire a hail of bullets, homing missiles or drop devastating bombs on your enemies. This game is the best shooter game out there! Really worth the cash. Played for hours.
Great classic arcade game re-made. I know for sure that I pumped more than 4 quarters into this machine back in the late 80s and 90s. if you remember this game then you wont regret this version for a buck. And no I dont work work for the company.
its fun and thats what matters! nice graphics but a little slow paced for me. I wish everything was moving atleast twice as fast, its just too easy at the current speed.
worth every penny. could use some tweaking here and there but nothing to rant about........whoever made this game knows what i want in a game. the controls are especially awesome..... keep up the good work people and keep it coming.
About the game not saving thats not true you can infinetly restart levels......if youve lost all your lives and you dont want to play anymore just hit restart on the end game screen. when it loads you into the game just close it.....and you can select continue campagin at a later date. if you dont hit restart and you lingure to long it will restart the whole game.

Im revising my initial review in light of the developers excellent update that addressed my biggest concern (having to restart the entire campaign when youre out of lives). Clearly, Chillingo has been paying close attention to customer reviews, and this is much appreciated.
Sky Combat delivers a lot of eye candy -- high-res graphics, explosive battles and detailed terrain. The FX are well-done (I especially like the metallic clang of shrapnel and ordnance as they tear into your copter/vehicle), there are plenty of control options, and you can choose from Campaign, Single Mission or Endless Mode (each with 3 levels of difficulty). Gameplay occasionally "hiccups," as it sometimes "hangs" briefly when a new wave of enemies join the fight, but its not too distracting. Overall, the game looks, sounds and plays well and is an engaging 2D shooter.
The only disappointment so far has been the "bosses" at the end of each mission. They tend to be similar so far and are relatively easy to defeat. Some greater variety would make gameplay more compelling.
One UI tweak Id ask Chilingo to make -- Please reposition the "Pause" button and make it MUCH bigger. Currently, its sandwiched between 2 HUD icons at the top of the screen and is both tiny and awkward to tap.

Its weird... Why does the touch controls make your heli go one inch above your finger.
That word sums it up - awesome. Simple, great graphics, and well worth the $.99
All I have to say is above. And plus, when I went in the game the next day, all my campain progress was gone!! But this game is so awesome Ill still give u two stars
But the missles need to be fixed. Im on level three, and whenever I launch missles at a armored turret, the missle curves around and hits some small helicopter at the edge of the screen.
Cool game except for the controls.
If you take your finger off the main screen to launch a missile and quickly put it back on the main screen to continue flying, the helicopter will jump back to center of the screen (aka resets back to center) even if you placed your finger on the side of the main screen. This is really annoying if you are near high buildings or if you have a million little missiles/bullets/torpedoes that you are trying to avoid like in Endless Mode. Especially in Endless Mode, this flaw makes the game almost unplayable.
